10 Best Wrestling Tag Team Matches Ever
8. Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho Vs. Steve Austin & Triple H (WWE Raw - May 21st 2001)
The silver lining of Steve Austin's disastrous, era-killing heel turn came in two forms:-
1. Those surprisingly hilarious double-act segments with Kurt Angle during the Invasion.
2. This ripping tag team match.
Here we have the Two-Man Power Trip's finest hour as 'Stone Cold' and Triple H rode into battle against Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit, their Tag Team Championships on the line. Their cohesion advantage formed the story's bedrock. Jericho and Benoit were uneasy allies at best, having feuded earlier in the year, and Austin and Triple H worked like they had no respect for either man's skills whatsoever. They were out to flatten the underdogs quickly, effectively, and decisively, injecting a palpable undercurrent of hatred as they worked Benoit over, continually cutting him off from Jericho.
Psychologically, this thing was multi-faceted, with the challengers realising they needed to dirty their own hands a little if they wanted to prevail, raising their performances beyond typical white-meat fare. In the end, it was an all-timer blighted only by the torn quad that would rule Triple H out for the rest of the year. Raw hasn't seen a match this electric since.
