10 Best Wrestling Tournaments Ever

1. Wrestlemania IV (WWE)

Why it€™s number 1: The first (and so far last) time the WWE held a full scale, one night tournament for the WWE title at Wrestlemania. The title was declared vacant earlier in the year following a plot by the Million Dollar Man to buy the belt from Andre the Giant. Adding to the intrigue of the tournament was that both Andre and Hogan (the the last two official title holders) were wrestling each other in the second round as a rematch to their epic Wrestlemania III main event. The 14 man bracket was a who€™s who in the WWE at the time with contestants featuring Hogan, Andre, DiBiase, Savage, Duggan, One Man Gang, Rude, Roberts and Steamboat. The tournament really delivered in both format, match quality and a truly memorable storyline. Adding all those elements together is what makes this tourney the top spot on this list. Best Match: Randy Savage vs. Ted DiBiase. The finals of this tournament would not only crown the new heavyweight champion (and for the first time in five years that person would not be named Hulk Hogan or Andre the Giant) but also happened to feature two of the flat-out best pure wrestlers in the company. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaUsMv0xmgA Randy Savage and Ted DiBiase delivered a solid match that was also high on storyline drama with the Million Dollar Man attempting to ultimately succeed in his plan of legitimately winning the WWE title he stole from Hulk Hogan. After many years of lumbering heavyweights, the high flying and technical wrestlers received a chance to be in the main event and fight for the highest prize in wrestling. It was a welcome departure from the norm and a truly memorable contest. Winner and aftermath: Randy Savage winning his first world title with Hogan as his ally was a stirring end to the event. It would also set in a motion a year long storyline between Hogan and Savage that would culminate in them facing each in the following Wrestlemania. Essentially, this tournament was the foundation for one of the WWE€™s greatest storylines and delivered with memorable matches but was really tied together with a truly epic storyline.
