Other than wrestling, the General Manager slot was the best possible position for the recently retired Stone Cold Steve Austin in 2003. His entertaining antics alongside Eric Bischoff helped carry the program throughout the better part of the year, but the two were always at odds with each other.

By the fall, it was apparent that there was room for only one of them on Raw, leading to a blockbuster five-on-five elimination tag team match at Survivor Series where the winning team's captain would gain control of the flagship show.

This is the one career-threatening match you will find on this list where those whose jobs were at stake weren't a part of the actual match. Their fate was in the hands of who they decided to represent them, and Stone Cold had a stacked team consisting of Shawn Michaels, Rob Van Dam, Booker T, and The Dudley Boyz.

Team Austin fought valiantly with Michaels battling back and eliminating several members of Team Bischoff, but due to interference from Orton's Evolution stablemate Batista, HBK fell short, costing The Texas Rattlesnake his spot on the Raw roster as a result. It was a heartbreaking farewell for Austin, but an excellent match nevertheless.
