The very best WWE Championship reign of the 2000s began just three days into the decade.

Triple H defeated The Big Show on the year's first episode of Raw to start his third reign as top dog. Once Mr. Wight was out of the picture, The Game moved onto his next challenger, a man who would help define him as a main eventer - Mick Foley.

Under his Cactus Jack guise, Foley put on two all-time great matches with Trips; first at the Royal Rumble and then at No Way Out. Hunter carried the title into WrestleMania 2000 and the show's disappointing main event, but he more than made up for it one month later.

At Backlash, The H-Man and The Rock put on a sports entertainment battle for the ages. With more melodrama than a telenovela on crack, Rocky finally overcame his scheming nemesis thanks to Stone Cold, whose appearance generated one of the biggest pops WWE has ever heard.

With three legendary matches in the space of just 118 days, Triple H showed that he had what it took to carry the company on his back, and oh boy, isn't that just what he did.
