10 Best WWE Gimmicks Vince McMahon Had Nothing To Do With

In the wake of Kevin Nash and Scott Hall departing for WCW in mid-1996, the WWF had a little panic. The infamous 'Curtain Call' incident carried out by The Kliq at MSG infuriated some so much that McMahon had to take action. He couldn't punish WWF Champ Shawn Michaels, so he hammered Triple H instead and put him firmly in the doghouse.

By late-1997, Trips was relieved of detention and the second-rate 'Greenwich Snob' character that was holding him back. He reignited his career by resurrecting the spirit of The Kliq with HBK and new bodyguard Chyna. Once this new group dispatched odd choice Rick Rude (who himself left for WCW later that year), they went from strength-to-strength.

The gimmick's success and desire to push the envelope was all their doing.

Michaels and Triple H, as the sophomoric ringleaders of DX, were becoming a two-man riot every week. They helped up the edginess of WWF programming by delivering raunchy promos, sexual innuendos aplenty and constant crotch chops. McMahon, eager to fight back in the war he was losing against WCW, let them run wild.
