10 Best WWE Matches That Happened Outside America
9. AJ Styles V Jinder Mahal - Manchester
When titles change hands, it was rarely done outside of events and shows in America or Canada - especially the WWE Championship, which made this exchange even more shocking and memorable as it happened on a pretaped edition of Smackdown in Manchester as AJ Styles claimed his second WWE Championship from one of the most unlikely title holders in the company's history.
Jinder Mahal’s reign as WWE Champion was not exactly a successful one with the fans, despite him coming through some big title defences including several against Shinsuke Nakamura, arguably knocking the King of Strong Style seriously off course. After the ‘Modern Day Maharaja’s’ shock win over Randy Orton, fans didn’t really buy the former 3MB member as a credible champion, despite him looking and acting the part, even challenged Brock Lesnar to a champion vs champion match at Survivor Series.
With rumours that the Beast Incarnate wasn’t too keen to work with Mahal, AJ Styles stepped up to challenge for the gold and on the November 7th edition of Smackdown, the Phenomenal One shocked everyone by defeating Mahal for the title in front of a rabid UK crowd. The match lives on in WWE history as one of the most unique as it was the only time the WWE Title changed hands in the UK and put the title back on the hugely popular Styles.
