It was no secret that HHH not only wanted to capitalise on the success of NXT but also set up outposts across the world where new talent can be found, honed, and eventually promoted to the US.

NXT UK was the first foray into this - and to date, the only one to exist still, and it began with a two-night championship tournament, headlined by a clash between two longtime friends and partners, which turned out to be the classic insiders and fans of the pair had expected.

Two-thirds of British Strong Style - Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne had made it through to the finals of what was a really good tournament featuring the likes of Trent Seven, Zack Gibson and more to crown the inaugural NXT UK Champion. The final, held on the second of two fantastic nights of action in Blackpool was a classic scrap between the pair. Bate fighting through the pain after a pre-match assault from Dunne. The Bruiserweight took control with his patented limb busting offence and Bate countered with hard-hitting and high flying moves.

Eventually nailing the Tyler Driver 97, Bate picked up the win and the title in what was considered their finest match at the time and one which helped put British wrestling back on the map.
