10 Best WWE Moments That Have Ever Happened In Chicago

6. Bret vs. Owen In A Steel Cage - Summerslam 1994

The Bret Hart/Owen Hart rivalry was the best thing that happened in the WWF in 1994. Starting at the Royal Rumble where Owen turned on Bret after their tag title match against the Quebecers, this rivalry would span the entire calendar year. It produced arguably the greatest opening match in Wrestlemania history where Bret lost cleanly to Owen before winning the WWF Title the same evening. Owen then demanded a title match, claiming he beat Bret on the same night he won the title. Owen further legitimized his claim by winning the King of the Ring, the very tournament Bret won the year prior. To really rub salt into the wound, Owen enlisted the services of Bret€™s former tag team partner and their brother-in-law, Jim €œThe Anvil€ Neidhart. The stage was set for Bret and Owen to clash for the title, and clash they would in Chicago. Summerslam 1994 was one of the very first events in the brand new United Center, where the Chicago Bulls currently play. The event featured Razor Ramon winning back the Intercontinental Championship from Diesel, Tatanka selling out and turning heel by joining The Million Dollar Corporation, and a main event of the Undertaker vs. the Undertaker. But the real show-stealer was Bret vs. Owen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5-jbydirbo This cage match was unique in that both men really used the cage throughout the match and really concentrated on winning the title, even if it meant climbing over the top or through the door at the expense of dishing out more punishment to the opponent. This match was also notable for showcasing the return of The British Bulldog, who appeared in the crowd as a fan but ended up getting involved in the match to thwart Neidhart€™s interference. Bret retained the title, and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter awarded the match a full five-star rating, one of very few North American wrestling matches to achieve that distinction.
