10 Best WWE Moments That Have Ever Happened In Chicago

3. Chris Jericho€™s Debut - Monday Night Raw, August 9, 1999

For months in 1999, the WWF aired a €œCountdown to the Millennium€ clock. In the years before the internet became the internet and we had to use dial-up modems that blocked our phone lines in order to get online, the rumor mill wasn€™t as prevalent as it was today. But the rumor of Chris Jericho jumping WCW for the WWF was too big to ignore. The clock counted down to August 9, 1999 at 9 PM, where Raw was live from Chicago. At the time, The Rock was in the ring cutting a promo on Billy Gunn, when the countdown clock was shown on the Titantron, about to count down to 0. The lights dimmed, pulsating music came though the speakers, and suddenly the lights were cut out. After a few seconds, there was an explosion, followed by four words WWE fans would hear for the next 15 years. €œBreak The Walls Down!€ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGsBRImD0po There in the entrance way, his back turned to the audience in a Christ-like pose, was Chris Jericho. The Chicago crowd delivered one of the loudest ovations for a debuting wrestler ever in the WWE. Jericho would go on to deliver a legendary delusional promo about being the savior of the WWF, while The Rock paced back and forth. Rock waited for Jericho to finish, and then delivered a retort that put Jericho right in his place using his traditional shtick. This segment managed to put Jericho over as an immediate upper tier player while simultaneously allowing him to €œshow ass€ as a heel, which would end up being a trademark of Jericho over his career. It was one of the most memorable segments of all time, and it happened in Chicago.
