10 Best WWE Royal Rumble Debuts
9. Tye Dillinger (2017)
For a lot of wrestling fans, Tye Dillinger's maiden year on the WWE roster has been a chastening lesson in being careful what you wish for.
This time last year, it seemed like a great idea for the NXT rookie to get his call-up in time for the Royal Rumble, allowing him to pop up at the number 10 spot in line with his (frankly limited) gimmick of being "The Perfect 10".
And, to be fair, it did make for a cool moment. He received a big pop from the San Antonio crowd (at least relative to those of developmental call-ups without much in the way of profile on the indie scene), before getting eliminated by a rampant Braun Strowman after about five minutes.
Problem is, however, the company's creative team didn't seem to have much in mind for him in terms of a long-term plan. He's spent the 12 months since floundering at the lower end of SmackDown's mid-card scene, and at nearly 37, time for a repackaging is fast running out.
