Wrestling in the penultimate match of his WWE career before his unlikely WrestleMania 33 return alongside brother Matt, Jeff Hardy put in a spellbinding shift against CM Punk in their powerful 'Tables, Ladders & Chairs' main event of SummerSlam 2009.

Hardy would fall again days later in a 'Loser Leaves WWE' steel cage match against the 'Straight Edge Superstar', but it became matches such as the duo's summer stunt show that WWE fans would pine for during the combination of legal turmoil, personal demons and professional vindication that kept Jeff away from the company for eight years.

The feud between the polar opposites had written itself, and had for a period looked to at long last cement Punk in the upper echelon before a backstage etiquette disagreement with The Undertaker resulted in him losing the title he fought so hard here to win a little over two months later.

Fought under the company's PG directive, the action-packed affair featured a raft of wicked weapons shots as Punk dragged Hardy down to his vicious level in an effort to disable him long enough to climb the ladder and grab the gold.

Unfortunately, Jeff's devilry was his undoing. A jaw-dropping Swanton Bomb on the challenger through the Spanish announce table harmed him more than his opponent, allowing Punk to win a footrace up the ladder after scoring with pinpoint kicks to his injured ribs.

A cute lights off/lights on return of The Undertaker in the post-match was the icing on the cake.
