7. The Undertaker vs. Bret Hart (1997)

In Bret Hart's book, 'My Real Life In The Cartoon World Of Wrestling, the Canadian notes that by the Summer of 1997 he was greatly looking forward to working with The Undertaker again. The duo had clashed many times before, but Hart reasons that those matches were hampered by The Deadman's gimmick. A slow-moving zombie-like figure for many of those previous collisions, Undertaker had expanded his move set and quickened the pace of his work by '97. Adding fuel to the fire, Shawn Michaels was installed as the Special Guest Referee. This only upped the level of excitement that the match could be great, because Michaels had previous beef with Hart, and fans were intrigued to see him match up with The Undertaker. Shockingly, despite the drama near the end and the obvious involvement from Michaels, 'Taker and Bret had a solid one-on-one wrestling match. Aside from the over-riding story being told (Hart hated Michaels, and Shawn effectively cost Undertaker the WWF Title), the action was gripping. According to Hart, The Undertaker always enjoyed working with him because he was given the chance to show what he could do as an actual grappler. That was evident during this one, and it showed fans a different side of 'Taker. After some of the awful opponents the guy had suffered through at SummerSlam over the years (Giant Gonzales, Kamala), this was a breath of fresh air.
