10 Best WWE SummerSlam Main Events Ever

8. John Cena vs. Randy Orton (2007)

WWE would perhaps go to the proverbial well once too often with John Cena vs. Randy Orton, but their SummerSlam 2007 main event remains a modern-day classic. The match didn't have the longest length, clocking in at just under 15 minutes, but it did once again show the chemistry both men have with one another. There were calls for Triple H vs. Booker T to headline, but Cena vs. Orton was the far better choice. There's no doubting that Triple H's return would have popped the crowd and sent them home happy in the main event slot, but the feeling was a Cena win would do the same. Admittedly, fans had already started to turn their backs on babyface Cena years before, but Orton was such an effective heel that enough cheers were heard once Cena's hand was raised in victory. Orton and Cena have had countless matches over the years on WWE television and Pay-Per-View, and a great number more on non-televised live events. Even with that in mind, they do produce the goods more often than not, and SummerSlam '07 was another reminder of that. The next month at Unforgiven, they'd face off in a short, unsatisfying bout, which only makes it easier to appreciate their work at SummerSlam.
