It's not the best main event Survivor Series has ever done. A veritable dissertation could be written on the myriad of issues with the Invasion angle at large. Had more patience and investment in the storyline been utilized to give us an actual match between the ten biggest names in WWF and WCW instead of seven WWF superstars, a WCW alumni, an ECW alumni and Shane McMahon, perhaps it even tops the list.

All things considered, it's still a damn good match. In the long term, it might be the most pivotal also.

Most know the story by now; Vince McMahon purchases his competition a week before WrestleMania, Shane and Stephanie purchase WCW and ECW out from under him, form an alliance and stage a rushed invasion before the bigger contracts are ready to come aboard. Everything is a jumbled mess until November. Fans are left to speculate what could have been.

In all seriousness, WWF stuck the landing as best as possible with the hand they dealt themselves. After a 45-minute tilt between factions captained by arguably the company's greatest rivalry, The Rock and Team WWF triumphed over 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and Team Alliance in spite of and due in large part to betrayals from Chris Jericho and Kurt Angle respectively.

Vince's victory stance on the entranceway was the perfect exclamation point on the final page of the Monday Night Wars and with all due respect to TNA/Impact Wrestling, the event served as his last serious competition for nearly 20 years.
