Mercury, Nitro and Melina - MNM - were a breath of fresh air when they arrived on Smackdown in April 2005. With their paparazzi, red carpet entrance and Hollywood celebrity characters, they were like nothing ever before seen on WWE television. The group, who came up with and honed the MNM gimmick while waiting to be called up from OVW, In their first televised match Mercury and Nitro beat Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero to win the Tag Team Championships and held them until June the following year. While things were good in the ring, backstage it was a different matter: Nitro and Mercury did not get along and Melina had annoyed the entire locker room with her prima donna behaviour, which landed her a trip to wrestler's court on a tour of Australia in February 2006. After splitting up and after Mercury had spent some time in rehab, MNM briefly reformed in late 2006 to feud with the Hardy Boys. Mercury famously suffered a disgusting injury at Armageddon when a ladder struck him full-force in the face and opened a huge cut that required fifteen stitches to close. That was it for MNM as Nitro continued to wrestle in singles and Mercury was released. Still, while they were on top they were one of the best tag teams in the business.
