4. The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar (2002)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvriROnmpeQ When he made his impromptu debut one night removed from WrestleMania 18, Brock Lesnar was nothing more than an unknown to wrestling fans. Within months, Lesnar became a force to be reckoned with after winning the 2002 King of the Ring tournament, earning an opportunity to contend for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam. He ran rampant over the entire Raw roster and remained undefeated going into the event where he'd go up against one of the biggest icons in the business, The Rock. Members of the WWE Universe started to slowly turn on The Rock following his victory over Hulk Hogan. He was still at the peak of his popularity as WWE champion, but the fans came to the realization that he was off to Hollywood after SummerSlam, so they sided with Lesnar in his feud against Lesnar. Regardless, it was still shaping up to be a must-see matchup at SummerSlam. On a night where Shawn Michaels returned to the ring against Triple H and Rey Mysterio made his pay-per-view debut against Kurt Angle, Rock and Lesnar still managed to have a memorable match in the main event. Lesnar had knocked off a slew of Superstars heading into the event, but none of them were on the level of Rock. Still, Lesnar stood toe-to-toe with The Brahma Bull the entire contest, offering a counter for every one of his signature maneuvers. With very little help from his manager Paul Heyman at ringside, the former NCAA champion laid out Rock with an F5 to score the three count and his first WWE Championship. It launched Lesnar into an all-new level of super stardom and solidified him as a main event player in WWE. Living up to his moniker of being The Next Big Thing, Lesnar was just getting started. Rock would disappear from WWE TV until WrestleMania season. He wouldn't regain the gold for another 10 years and he and Lesnar still have yet to meet in a rematch.
