A return to an old paradigm necessitated by Brock Lesnar's unique WWE contract, The Beast's first reign during his second stint with the company truly elevated its top prize into the realm of the legitimate. Elusive to fans and performers alike, Lesnar fashioned something special from the belt as a result of its scarcity and his career-best performances.

Removing it from the waist of John Cena in a brave and novel squash match at SummerSlam '14, even the deflating retcon at Night of Champions failed to dent Lesnar's new aura as an unstoppable killer. Never did he portray that role better than at Royal Rumble '15, in which Lesnar rose from the announce table wreckage like a sea monster to deliver a German suplex to Seth Rollins with an arc as beautiful as it was frightening. Lesnar in that Triple Threat match, WWE's best ever, was outstanding - a genuine superhuman downright scary to bear witness to.

Beating Roman Reigns to a pulp at WrestleMania 31, Lesnar's reputation was such that even the Big Dog's most ardent detractors must have felt something approaching sympathy for the man: absorbing sick knees and clubbing forearms to the face, Roman looked to be in peril.

By extension, the WWE Title felt like a prize once more, as opposed to a prop desperately bounced around a roster subjected to injury and protest.
