10 Best WWE WrestleMania Matches Fought Between Part-Timers
6. Sting Vs. Triple H (WrestleMania 31)
Going into the event, WrestleMania 31 was predicted to end up stuck in the purgatory between classic and infamous.
It ended up being one of (and maybe even the single) best of the modern era, in no small part thanks to this nostalgia-fest. No one expected this to be a mat classic, but few could have predicted how fun this would be.
Carried by the crowd for the first half, it was a slow slugfest between two of the industry's veterans... until the DX music hit. Road Dogg, Billy Gunn and X-Pac did the best they could to sprint to the ring and made a beeline for Sting, who brushed them off with ease. The numbers game soon caught up with him, and he appeared to have lost the match... cue nWo music.
Evening up the playing field, the original nWo trio hit the ring to rapturous applause, taking out Triple H's cronies and riling the crowd up. As if the entrance of the two biggest factions of the 1990s hadn't been enough, Sting was soon met with a superkick by a still-ponytailed Shawn Michaels.
The only real letdown to this match is the outcome, with 'The King of Kings' hitting Sting with a pedigree for the victory. To turn what could have been an even better nostalgia match into a Monday Night Wars rehash made no sense, and the outcome is still lamented to this day. That being said, it was a damn entertaining match that fit perfectly onto the card.
