What happens when you go from a wrestler/promoter who worked in the vaudeville era to a wrestler playing a vaudevillain? A fantastic segue, that’s what. Aiden English, born Matthew Rehwoldt, was born in the Windy City, and even holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts from Columbia College in Chicago, where he studied acting and stage combat. English wrestled for local Chicago promotions, including Chicago Style Wrestling, before signing with Florida Championship Wrestling in 2012. (Later to be re-branded as NXT)
As a singles competitor, he would lose to the likes of Bray Wyatt and Big E. Langston before finding his current tag team partner Simon Gotch to form the Vaudevillains. In 2015 they captured the NXT Tag Team Championships, and their last match in NXT came in a #1 contenders match where they lost to American Alpha right before joining the SmackDown roster where they remain to this day.
