10 Big Concerns Heading Into WWE Hell In A Cell 2020

2. Modern Hell In A Cell Matches Aren't Violent

The era of match-themed PPVs has come and gone but Hell In A Cell is one of the few relics that remain and that right there is an example of how out of touch WWE actually is. The truth is that Hell In A Cell is one of the most divisive events in the company's history because, while the Hell In A Cell match concept is legendary, all the PPV has accomplished is watering it down. And many of us saw this coming when it was introduced back in 2009.

Oversaturation isn't the only problem though. While few rivalries ever feel like they're brutal enough to warrant the barbaric structure, that isn't a concern for the 2020 edition because all three cell matches feel worthy of it. No, the bigger problem is what they're unable to do when they get inside that structure.

The fact of the matter is that "hell" isn't possible in a PG product. This has resulted in a number of Hell In A Cell matches feeling very samey and lacklustre over the years because the superstars have to rely on similar tropes of chair shots, kendo sticks and tables while limiting the violence from the cell itself. And unfortunately, we shouldn't expect any different from the three Hell In A Cell bouts we're going to get on Sunday.
