10 Big Concerns Heading Into WWE SummerSlam 2020
5. King Corbin Vs. Matt Riddle (In Its Entirety)
Is this even happening? It seems like it’s what they’ve been building to for the last few months, but Bruce Prichard’s Smackdown has never been one for paying off angles. King Corbin is good at his job, he’s great on the mic and has fantastic big moves, but relies too much on the dull way of getting heat in a lot of his big matches. Matt Riddle is one of the most naturally gifted wrestlers in recent memory, but has sparked controversy in the aftermath of the #SpeakingOut movement due to allegations of sexual assault.
The two of them would never be a combination that sounds appealing for a main roster Big Four PPV, their styles just don’t seem like good fits for each other. Yet the prospect of doing it without a real crowd at a time where Riddle hasn’t been cleared of wrongdoing is misguided to say the least, and seems designed to be filler if it ends up on the card at all.
SummerSlam should have effort put into its narratives and its undercard matchups, and Corbin and Riddle‘s barebones heatless feud is an indictment of WWE’s laziness towards 'The Biggest Party of the Summer.'
