10 Big Money Matches WWE Needs To Make
8. John Cena Vs. Goldberg
Lesnar isn’t the only potential opponent that a re-signed Bill Goldberg could potentially face in today’s WWE, of course. While there could be interesting match-ups with any number of today’s roster, it’s highly unlikely that Goldberg would ever return to anything approaching a full time schedule: if he comes back at all, it’d be for a short period: for an angle, perhaps even just for a single match.
It’d also have to be a feud that he could be assured would draw, since money would be one of two motivations for returning to wrestling (the other being, allowing his wife and son to see him perform on a big stage). The biggest draw aside from Lesnar would have to be a feud with John Cena.
Seeing Cena take a step back from the main event has been one of the more rewarding aspects of watching RAW in the last couple of years. He’s become increasingly vulnerable, able to have competitive matches with people lower on the totem pole and even lose cleanly to up-and-coming stars.
A feud with Goldberg could be the last chance we get to see this version of John Cena - the WWE bobblehead, patron saint of Never Giving Up. Perhaps a win over Cena at WrestleMania 33 could even set Goldberg up for that Lesnar rematch, the Beast coming in to get his win back thirteen years later while Cena takes some time off to make movies/TV shows/Bella-hybrid children, or conquer China or whatever.
