10 Big Predictions For NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 11
9. Rocky Romero Breaks The Record
Roppongi Vice will challenge for The Young Bucks’ IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships on January 4th, and Rocky Romero is out to become a record-breaker. If he and Beretta can take the belts from the Bucks, Romero will become the first seven-time champion in the belts’ history, and set his year off to the best possible start.
Winning won’t be an easy task, however. The Young Bucks are one of the most popular tag teams in the world, and they’re currently close to 200 days into their fifth reign as champions. Nick and Matt Jackson have completely rewritten the rulebook for NJPW’s Junior Heavyweight tag teams, and they’ve emerged as the division’s frontrunners over the past few years.
RPG Vice overcame some serious miscommunication issues to win this year’s Super Jr. Tag Tournament, and it’s the first time in several years that Wrestle Kingdom’s JHW tag match hasn’t been a multi-team cluster. Romero & Beretta earned the right to fight the Bucks twon on two, and there’s a strong chance they’ll win.
Becoming champions would be the perfect cap to the will they/won’t they split angle that NJPW ran with Roppongi Vice a few months ago. History suggest they won’t be champions for long, however: Vice’s two previous title runs lasted just 51 days between them.
