It certainly seemed as though The Game had a hand in Sting's opening promo this week. 'The Vigilante' started the show by paying tribute to Triple H, claiming that their WrestleMania 31 encounter caused the pair to respect one another. That's the very same match that included messy run-ins from DX and the nWo, and culminated in Hunter cheating to win via a characteristic sledgehammer shot. It was a baffling move from Sting, one made worse by his following assurance that Rollins "is no Triple H", and "is half the man Triple H is". Sting's love letter to the head of the Authority was an example of the WWE's promo-scripting at its very worst. It was entirely out of character for a man who enjoyed his most successful years as the renegade opponent of the nWo, one who didn't pay respect to WCW's heel antagonists due to their lack of virtue. Triple H's cheap win at WrestleMania shouldn't have earned Sting's respect; it should have fuelled his desire for revenge. The WWE's pre-written promos are damaging enough when making homegrown talents seem generic and boring - but even more disastrous when going against the legacy of a pre-established icon like Sting.
