4. Was It Right To Have Jon Stewart Factor Into WWE Title Match Finish?
Jon Stewart did an okay job as the host of SummerSlam. He's a funny guy that has made me laugh so much over the last twenty years, but some of the jokes he did didn't work that well. Then there was his random appearance in the WWE/US Title match following the ref bump. With the ref down, Stewart went into the ring with a steel char and teased attacking Seth Rollins and John Cena. People probably assumed it would be Rollins since they have had verbal altercations in the past, so when he attacked Cena it was a shock, which led to Rollins winning the US Title to go along with his WWE Title. The finish happened after an exciting match that went nearly 20 minutes with Rollins looking like he was the best in the world. Rollins had a phenomenal showing in that match while he wore some new white gear as well. A big reason why WWE did it is because they wanted to make the mainstream press with something from this show, so they used their host Stewart to do it. After looking around various non-wrestling sites today, that plan obviously worked well. Great move? No, but it easy to see why they did it. In addition to that, this will likely keep the Cena/Rollins feud going, which was necessary since they might be headlining the Night of Champions event on September 20. Cena already lost clean once this year when Kevin Owens beat him at Elimination Chamber in May. WWE isn't going to have Cena lose clean like that again for a long time, so it's no surprise that they went with the Stewart interference finish. As a final note on this match, this makes it the fifth year in a row where Cena lost at SummerSlam. His last win was in 2010.
