10 Big Signings WWE Must Make In 2017

9. Pete Dunne

Pete Dunne’s potential has always been obvious to anyone keeping a keen eye on the burgeoning British indie circuit, but he has exploded this year. In what feels like no time at all, Dunne has gone from lower-card highlight to one of the most in-demand pro-wrestlers in the country, and after appearing in this year’s PWG Battle of Los Angeles and becoming PROGRESS Champion a few weeks ago, his stock value has exploded.

The Bruiserweight is destined for bigger things. He’s a remarkably well-rounded grappler who works a hard-hitting, technical style, and he plays a great old-school, “I hate everybody” heel. It’s only a matter of time before WWE or NJPW coming knocking, and if Vince McMahon and co. are wise, they’ll make the first move.

William Regal appeared at a couple of PROGRESS shows throughout 2016, and after playing host to a set of Cruiserweight Classic qualifying matches, WWE clearly have their eye on the promotion. If they’ve been paying attention, they’ll know exactly what Pete Dunne’s capable of. They’d likely want to let him simmer in NXT for a few years, but Dunne could walk into the Performance Center tomorrow and immediately be one of NXT’s better wrestlers.
