John Cena is WWE's locker room leader, he's the guy who goes between Vince and the boys. Not having him there, not having that leadership, is an issue for WWE and the wrestlers. Cena is often the guiding light to some of the younger workers, and he also keeps an eye out for some of the experienced guys like Cesaro. His backstage importance can't be underestimated, he has sway with Vince and uses it to keep calm and order between the roster and the management. There's also the fact that the locker room look to Cena as the guy to pull the money in. With no Cena, everyone's earnings could be going down.
