10 Big WWE Returns That Could Happen In 2020

2. CM Punk

He may have returned in the most tedious way imaginable, but hell did indeed freeze over and yes, CM Punk is back WWE.

In a manner of speaking.

Just about nobody predicted this exegesis to half a decade of isolationism following Punk's bitter WWE walkout. The genesis of AEW provided the most likely opportunity for the one-time Best in the World to return to ringside, but having burned his newly constructed bridges with the burgeoning company, even that was taken off the table. Punk, it seemed, would remain content making low-rent horror movies for the rest of his days (an MMA comeback notwithstanding).

And then, unbelievably, rumours swirled that the ex-champion had been interviewed for a mundane analyst role on an equally mundane WWE panel show. An elaborate rib, right? Nope. Living well on your enemy's dollar is the best revenge it seems - especially given the gentle work required.

But at some point, the temptation to tarnish his legacy will prove too great - especially given the monetary gain available for both parties. It's still low percentage, but now Punk's on the payroll, the chance of him dressing up as The Shield as a one-off illness substitute has risen significantly. Let's say 2%.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
