10 Biggest Disappointments From Cody Rhodes’ AEW Career
8. Falling Out With The Elite
We don’t really know what caused the tensions between AEW’s EVPs, but if rumours are to be believed, there was a period of time when Cody wasn’t on speaking terms with the others. This isn’t how it was supposed to go.
It seemed that in The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes had found kindred spirits who shared his desire for expressive, creative wrestling storytelling both in and out of the ring.
The four of them masterminded All In together and it’s hard to imagine that AEW would have existed without the alchemical mixture of all four men. For fans, it was a real-life feel-good story of friends sticking together to take on the machine. Unfortunately, friends grow apart sometimes. That’s no tragedy, just a fact of life, but it’s still a bit sad.
What’s worse for AEW is the storyline possibilities that they were left unable to explore. Tony Khan loves to draw on shared histories and between NJPW, ROH and Bullet Club The Elite have plenty of previous to work with.
There was no reason The Elite should be joined at the hip and it was great to see Cody tell his own stories with Chris Jericho, MJF and others, but it would have been nice to see The Elite reconnect on screen at some point.
