10 Biggest Disappointments From Cody Rhodes’ AEW Career
4. That Rambling, Scattershot Ladder Promo
Cody was one the best promo men on a roster of excellent talkers. It’s part of what made his programmes seem special and his matches feel big time. So a segment promoting a ladder match for the TNT title should have been comfortably within his wheelhouse.
Instead, this promo announced but failed to sell a ladder match because Cody was too busy teasing feuds that would never happen
“In the void that CM Punk left behind, somebody did do each and every one of those things…I did them”
... and taking a moment to bury reDRagon.
“I don’t need to see The Bucks beat the developmental more than once.“
... amongst other wild tangents.
Cody was undeniably entertaining here, but the whole segment had a car crash quality. You can see why Tony Khan was apparently beginning to see Cody as a liability. That reDRagon jab, for example, is hardly helpful when the former Undisputed Era duo are part of one the biggest stories in the company right now.
Cody was given a decent amount of screen time to seemingly say whatever he wanted. With hindsight, it seems like he mostly wanted to put himself over before leaving the company he helped to found.
