10 Biggest Ever Turning Points In Wrestling

3. The Raw/Nitro Simulcast - Last Monday Nitro, 2001

Of all the moments on this list, the one most regarded as totally unthinkable was surely the Raw/Nitro simulcast. The WWF and WCW had been at one another's throats for half a decade, determined to win the so-called 'Monday Night Wars' and secure a monopoly over the mainstream wrestling industry. Vince McMahon eventually won the war, buying his competition and once again establishing his dominance over the wrestling world. Onscreen, however, his victory was a lot less straightforward. The last ever episode of Nitro ended with a Raw simulcast, in which Vince McMahon made his way out to the ring and bragged about his impending (kayfabe) purchase of WCW. His celebrations were cut short as, over on Nitro, his own son came out and announced that he'd already bought the promotion from under his father's nose. This kickstarted one of the most uncertain periods in wrestling history, where fans were left guessing as to which WCW stars would next appear on WWF programming. Eventually the potentially groundbreaking 'Invasion' angle was deemed a failure, but remains one of the most unpredictable (and unforeseen) eras the business has ever seen.
