Double Or Nothing saw Cody hit it out of the park his first night in the company. Actually, that sentence reads like Rhodes was a rookie making a promising TV debut. By this point “The American Nightmare” was a main-eventer who had wowed people around the world and seemingly helped to will this monopoly challenging new promotion into existence.

Double Or Nothing needed to succeed and as EVP and star performer, there was pressure on Cody to deliver. But his match against brother Dustin also came with personal stakes.

Cody petitioned for this match at WrestleMania for years, convinced it could be incredible given the chance but a 2015 Fastlane showing with both men under the face paint underwhelmed. Now the brothers finally had the opportunity to show what they could do on their own terms.

The layout was perfect, Cody played heel in the guts of the match, refusing to go easy on his older sibling, which only provided the perfect backdrop for Dustin to prove he could level up to a younger generation’s crowd popping athleticism.

Dustin bled to add to the drama and set AEW apart from WWE’s sanitised product but the unexpected amount of blood dripping from the older man’s head lent the match unforgettable gory visuals. Cody had his first five-star match and possibly his best ever.
