10 Biggest Legal Battles WWE Ever Faced

3. The John Stossel Interview

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrX9Ca7LSyQ If you haven't seen this TV incident, then you really need to. In 1984, U.S. television reporter was doing a piece on pro-wrestling for 20:20. There had been wrestlers who broke 'kayfabe' and stated that wrestling was fixed (most recently, at the time, Eddie Mansfield) and Stossel was sent to interview Mansfield's ex-tag partner, and WWF wrestler (and known hard man), David Schultz. Schultz acted the hard man and when Stossel began a question with 'I think this is fake....', Schultz slapped him twice, hard, on camera. He subsequently stated that Vince McMahon himself told him to 'blast' Stossel as he was only there to try to embarrass the business. I think it's safe to say that Stossel didn't take this lying down....or on the ground from a slap. Stossel sued the WWF, stating that he had received permanent ear damage from the slap. he was looking for millions of dollars, but received a payout of $425,000. This could have been disastrous for Vince, as could other incidents of a similar kind involving Vader, but the WWF managed to work their way through it. Schultz, on the other hand, was fired soon after.
