10 Biggest Pro Wrestling Debates

9. How Much Has John Cena Hurt/Helped The Current Era's Numbers?

Of everything in the current pro wrestling scene, this is the topic that is going to bring forth the most passionate responses from both sides of the debate. Whether you love him or hate him, John Cena has been WWE's top guy for nearly a full decade now, winning titles, moving merchandise, starring in movies, and doing anything that has been asked of him. He's both incredibly underrated and terribly overrated at the same time, which is quite the feat. His detractors don't give him anywhere near as much credit as he deserves for all of the really good, and even great, matches he's been a part of. However, his fans don't always seem to understand why people get so sick and tired of seeing him all the time. When the overall WWE product is struggling, Cena takes much of the blame for it. How fair is that, though? All "top guys" get looked at in such a light, from the days of Lou Thesz and Bruno Sammartino, to Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes, to Hulk Hogan, to Steve Austin and The Rock, and to anyone else that has ever been #1 in a wrestling promotion. That part isn't new. Looking at the current era's numbers, people like to say that declining television ratings or lackluster ticket sales are due to people not wanting to see Cena anymore, and while definitive numbers will never be known, perhaps part of that is the truth. He isn't responsible for the writing or the booking of the shows, but the company's insistence on pushing him... and pushing him... and pushing him... and pushing him can be, at the very least, off-putting. With new people possibly being groomed for huge things in the future, perhaps it's time for WWE to start lessening the dependence on Cena, and trusting people like Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, Seth Rollins and Daniel Bryan to carry the company. Only time will tell.
