When Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins stunk up Tables, Ladders and Chairs, the fury from the live audience seemed borne out of surprise for the snoozer they were being forced to endure. It was a match that actually lived down to the build-up, rather than rendering the wretched story redundant.
Why, and how, did long-tenured rivals and good hands Ambrose and Rollins get this one so wrong?
As much as anything, it's because they're long-tenured rivals and good hands. Ambrose and Rollins worked so often during The Shield's original split and have been through all their greatest hits over the prior two years that very little felt fresh. This is not just their fault of course, but the trick here was to deploy devious takes on old spots from Dean, and generate dizziness from Seth's dynamic retorts. These are the steps taken by elite performers though, not good hands. There's zero shame in occupying that space, but don't suggest it to the former 'Lunatic Fringe's lunatic fans.
Or, for that matter, those residing in a house of mediocrity assembled by 'The Architect'...
