10 Biggest Signings WWE Made In 2016

4. Goldberg

Unlike Shane McMahon, it looked like the chances of Goldberg ever returning to WWE were slim to none. However, if 2016 taught us anything, it was to never say never. The former WCW Heavyweight champion proved that with his highly anticipated comeback.

It started with Goldberg inking a deal with 2K Sports back in the spring to serve as the special downloadable character in WWE 2K17. That didn't necessarily mean he was in talks with WWE at the time, but if the past few years had been any indication (i.e. The Ultimate Warrior and Sting), it was only a matter of time before he resurfaced in the squared circle.

Sure enough, Brock Lesnar, the cover guy for WWE 2K17, goaded Goldberg into coming back on the Oct. 17 edition of Raw, and he was met with a monstrous response. Initially, the idea was for him to wrestle one last match and ride off into the sunset, but his immense popularity convinced WWE it was wise to keep him around a little longer.

He beat Brock Lesnar in under two minutes at Survivor Series and then announced his involvement in the 2017 Royal Rumble match the very next night on Raw. Thus, Goldberg is back for more than a Legends deal heading into the new year, two decades removed from when he was at the peak of his push in WCW. Amazing, right?
