5. What If He Didn't Take His Ball And Go Home?
Brock Lesnar was the anointed one as WWE began making its transition from the Invasion era into the period of Ruthless Aggression. In order to cement his status, he was set to go over Stone Cold in a King of the Ring qualifier. Just as Austin became the man through KoTR, the same luxury would be given to Lesnar.
Unfortunately, Austin, frustrated that the match was being given away on Raw, decided to stop reporting to arenas, leading to a burial from The Rock, Jim Ross, and Vince McMahon, who also fired him. Austin was set for a feud with Eddie Guerrero, but a dream match was called off simply because Austin decided not to show up. Due to Guerrero's tragic passing, Austin's match with him remains on a list of dream matches that will have to remain dreams until the end of time.
Even beyond just the Eddie Guerrero feud, he still had plenty of other great matches to help bolster the stars of the next generation. Guys like Shelton Benjamin, Batista, Randy Orton, and John Cena all could have had their profiles elevated by having a few scraps with the bionic redneck.
Unfortunately, as is the case for many wrestlers who reach the top of the mountain, they'd rather just phase off the peak than help others reach it.
