10 Biggest Wasted Opportunities In WWE

8. Stardust Vs. Goldust

If you blinked early last year, you’d have missed the epic confrontation between ‘the American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes two preternaturally talented sons, Dustin and Cody.

When Stardust turned on Goldust, everyone expected the angle that had been waiting in the wings since Dustin returned to the WWE, lean, mean and completely clean.

Delighting in delivering the unexpected, the WWE gave us a few great segments on free television and a nine minute singles match at the most worthless pay-per-view style event on the calendar, Fastlane, blowing off the angle before it had properly hardened.

Since then, WWE appear supremely uninterested in revisiting the rivalry. The fans received no closure on the storyline, and there’s still bad blood and unfinished business between the two weirdest characters on the roster.

More than that, this was the feud that Goldust had talked up most in interviews as the one he wanted to run before he’d even consider retirement: he wanted to put over his younger brother and made a star of him before he transitioned to a backstage role.

In the absence of that feud, Stardust has been loitering in an undercard role. The youngest son of one of the greatest and most popular pro wrestlers in history - a fantastic promo with matinee idol looks, perfect timing, killer athleticism and limitless potential - can’t even get a heel stable started, despite playing a literal comic book supervillain and despite having tried to recruit a tag team so generically thuggish that both of them have ‘henchman’ stamped on their asses.

Perhaps there’s still time to resurrect the feud and give it the attention it deserves… except neither man seems to be into it anymore, and the fans’ attention has passed on.
