10 Biggest Ways WWE Changed In AEW's First Full Year
4. Cinematic Style Matches
Vince McMahon had an opportunity to be creative with production far before AEW was around. He rarely seized it, even when Matt Hardy practically begged him to try cinematic style matches at the Hardy Compound. Vince simply didn't understand why fans would like watching. He's shifted his focus this past year.
A big part of Vince's willingness to make what he calls mini-movies is because of the restrictions of the current circumstances. This pandemic has forced WWE's hand. That said, to dismiss what a talent like Matt Hardy has been able to do while creating his own uniquely shot footage would be unfair. AEW is fully utilizing his creative ideas and not with just Hardy but talents like Darby Allin and The Young Bucks.
Not everyone loves the cinematic matches, but AEW has been known as a company that wants to be different. Seeing that there's an audience for it, perhaps WWE is more open to the idea as well. This year's Money in the Bank will feature a match filmed out of WWE's headquarters.
