10 Biggest WrestleMania Roadblocks

4. Bret Hart And Sid - 1997

At the 1997 Royal Rumble, Shawn Michaels recaptured the WWE Championship and Steve Austin won a spot in the WrestleMania 13 main event in highly controversial fashion. In the end, though, neither man would contest for the championship at the show of shows. According to rumors, Michaels was scheduled to drop the belt to Bret Hart at the show, but he refused to do the honors for his real-life enemy. He vacated the championship, citing a knee injury. Austin was booked to defend his WrestleMania spot in a four-way match against Hart, Vader, and The Undertaker, but with the WWE Title vacated, the belt was put up for grabs in the match. Hart won the bout and claimed his fourth WWE Championship, but the very next night on Raw, he lost the title to Sid. Since The Undertaker was the runner-up in the four-way match, he was declared the number one contender, and so Undertaker-Sid was the WrestleMania 13 main event. The following year, Austin and Michaels would leave the Royal Rumble as champion and challenger, respectively, once again. That time, they both made it to WrestleMania's main event.
