10 Biggest Wrestling Promo Botches
3. Kalisto's Draft Promo
Poor Kalisto. He never had a chance.
At the 2016 WWE draft following the return of the brand split, generic babyface luchador Kalisto found himself on SmackDown! and was asked to give his thoughts on the matter.
The wrestlers weren't primed on the events of the draft, a move intended to create a verisimilitude as the superstars dealt with their sudden changes in circumstances, but also one that exposed the ones not fast enough to think on their feet. One of those superstars was Kalisto.
"First of all I can't stop thinking about Barry Corbin... Baron Corbin... being on SmackDown!... "
At this point uncertainty passed across the luchador's face, a corrosive doubt that robbed him of the capacity to form any more coherent thoughts.
"I get to have my revenge... " His next few syllables were incomprehensible as he tried to regroup. "Like I said, I'm here... to stay... make... make a, uh... a good, good lucha... lucha... thing...'
Kalisto immediately fled out of frame, presumably to burst into tears. It was a truly horrific promo, an agonising collapse in confidence and coherence, as painful and tragic as watching a baby animal die.
