In the 1980s, having Terry Gordy in the WWF as a singles competitor would have been a nice signing. He was a big, badass, athletic heel who could have been a thorn in the side of the company's top babyfaces. But in 1993, he overdosed on a plane and went into a coma. Due to the brain damage he suffered, he was never the same physically. Three years later Vince McMahon signed him to a contract. As if that wasn't strange enough, he was no longer Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy, but The Executioner. And no, not The Executioner from the original WrestleMania, who was played by Buddy Rose. It was a stupid gimmick, and an embarrassing costume that the former Freebird had to wear. It would have been doomed even if he was his old-self, but due to his current physical condition the failure of the gimmick was inevitable. He just didn't have it anymore, which seemed obvious to anyone watching. All he got was one big match with The Undertaker, and then he was gone. Gordy passed away five years later at the age of 40.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
