Dolph Ziggler's been on the main WWE roster for about a decade going back to the Spirit Squad days. Once he dumped that persona (as well as the role as Chavo's caddy), he became Dolph Ziggler in late 2008. His character has become known as a "Show Off" that thought he was the best looking guy in the building and was always very cocky. It helped get him over as a heel for much of his career. He's been a babyface for the last few years because it's easy to like a guy that works as hard as him to put on some of the most entertaining matches in WWE night after night. During the course of his WWE career, Ziggler has been paired up with a number of different women that he was romantically linked with. He was paired up with Maria in a relationship that seemed to be done to help him get over more as a heel because he was a jerk to her. There was Vickie Guerrero, who Ziggler used because she had power and she helped him due to her ability to draw massive heel heat. He was also with Kaitlyn although that was mostly done to set up his split from Vickie. Ziggler's alliance with AJ Lee was a huge storyline because she turned on John Cena to be with him and they were booked as a duo (along with Big E) that was madly in love. It made Ziggler easy to hate because guys watching the shows were really attracted to AJ, so to see him with her added to his character a lot. Now that he's a babyface the idea that he's a ladies man has been toned down a bit although the origins of the character were very similar to several performers from the 1980s and 1990s as well.
