It's always been hard for celebrities to keep their private lives away from prying eyes, and it's even more difficult now thanks to social media. Maybe WWE felt they had to acknowledge that Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch were an item earlier this year then. Maybe they did, but they didn't have to book them as high school lovers.

Revisit the throwaway Stomping Grounds pay-per-view to see this angle in its full "glory".

There, Becky's hard shell was stripped away in favour of a goofy, doughy-eyed gal who had fallen for her 'Man'. Meanwhile, in promos leading up the show and in some afterwards, Rollins was emasculated by Lynch suddenly becoming dominant in the relationship. It was a dynamic that just didn't work at all, and it was hard to see who was benefitting from it.

If anything, WWE could've mentioned the real-life couple on air and left it at that. Why they felt the need to repeatedly book them in situations that undermined both characters is anyone's guess. Sometimes, the fantasy of characters is better than the reality of the people playing them.
