Cena's rivalry with Randy Orton throughout much of 2009 was painted as 'The Biggest Rivalry That Ever Blah De Dah De Doop De Dum'. The two had traded the WWE title back and forth for months, and the feud was set to be blown off in an Anything Goes Iron Man match at Bragging Rights 2009.

An hour is a mighty big canvas to work with. With careful storytelling, the company had the opportunity to tell an amazing story here. The stipulation of the match dictated that this was Cena's last chance at Orton's title and if he lost, he would leave RAW. With the stakes that high, obsession could have corrupted John Cena.

Picture this: Cena throws everything he's got at Orton, but he's finding himself being outwrestled by the Viper. 30 minute in, Cena has found himself three points down. He starts to get a bit more violent, turning up the heat. As the clock hits twenty minutes to go, Cena shows signs of visibly panicking.

Orton keeps kicking out, refusing to yield a single pinfall. Cena grabs weapon after weapon and breaks them all against Orton. Kendo sticks are splintered, tables are broken, chairs are dented and buckled, but nothing works.

Orton is so resilient that the crowd start to cheer for him. The announcers start to become concerned as the clock hits ten minutes and Cena becomes more frenzied, knocking out the referee after another Orton kickout. Cena begins to tear apart the ring as the clock ticks down down down. Jerry Lawler tries to calm him down and gets an AA for his troubles.

Finally, Orton wins and Cena goes ballistic on him, confirming the double turn. He is transferred to Smackdown, which he rules as the new top heel.
