The WrestleMania 33 Universal Title match infamously took place once before on the grandest stage, and became host to one of the most controversial crowd reactions to any match in the history of the 'Showcase of the Immortals'.

Fans had got wind of news that Brock Lesnar was shockingly departing WWE after only two years, with Goldberg following him right out the door after electing not to renew his contract following a rotten year with the promotion.

Goldberg was already due to receive some boos with his impending exit foreshadowed by disappearing from television completely in the build-up.To his credit, Lesnar was required to scuffle with guest referee Stone Cold Steve Austin to get the battle of the behemoths to WrestleMania with any remaining steam.

With both the subject of bile from the impassioned Madison Square Garden crowd, the match descended into farce with the two barely locking up in the opening minutes, then playing off 'This Match Sucks' and 'Boring' chants with a timid tussle thoroughly befitting of the abuse.

Though Goldberg won the match with a spear and jackhammer, the result had already been forgotten when the two were planted with Stone Cold Stunners just moments later, much to the delight of the crowd.
