Why There Was No Rematch: The Rock left WWE as a regular performer after the match while Goldberg only worked for WWE for one year. WWE brought Goldberg in on the Raw after WrestleMania 19 in 2003. The Rock beat Steve Austin at WM19, so he was out there bragging about how he's the greatest when Goldberg showed up. He was met with a Spear while they set up the main event of Backlash 2003. The feud wasn't necessarily the Austin/Goldberg dream match that a lot of people wanted, but it was definitely a big deal to see Goldberg in a WWE ring confronting The Rock. Even though WCW died, fans were still clamoring to see Goldberg and it felt right to see him in WWE. They spent about a month building up to Backlash where Goldberg won clean and The Rock left WWE to continue his Hollywood career. Goldberg spent one year in WWE and it's fair to say that his best feud was his first one with The Rock. He just didn't seem to click as well with the other opponents. That's a testament to The Rock as well because his heel persona was so good that he brought out the best in everybody.
