In the main event of Summerslam '91, Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior were set to uniteagainst the villainous team of Iraqi-sympathising Sgt. Slaughter, General Adnan, and Colonel Mustafa. However, because of a backstage conflict between Vince McMahon and Ultimate Warrior, the match was almost a complete fiasco.

Warrior was holding up McMahon for $500,000, which he felt was owed to him after his work at Wrestlemania 7. He felt that his star was equal to that of Hogan's and that his pay should reflect that, equalling the Hulk's paycheque for the event, despite Warrior's match being lower on the card. In July, weeks before the advertised match, Warrior sent Vince a list of written financial demands (which have since been leaked online) threatened to no-show unless he received a bump in pay, higher shares of merchandise and extra days off. If he didn't, he would apparently no-show the company's 2nd biggest event of the year.

Vince would later describe the Warrior as figuratively 'holding a gun to his head', so much so that, at the time, Sgt. Slaughter and Hulk Hogan offered to physically 'deal with the situation.' Instead, Vince agreed to pay the $500,000 and the match went ahead. As soon as the match was over, the Warrior was fired from the company, effective immediately.
