There are many casual wrestling fans that are of the belief Ric Flair retired in WWE at WrestleMania XXIV, when Shawn Michaels uttered the heartfelt line “I’m sorry, I love you” and hit Sweet Chin Music to send him off into the sunset.

Well 7 years prior to that ‘The Nature Boy’ for a time considered himself to be well and truly retired after his match against Sting on the final edition of Nitro. It was the last match that ever took place on WCW television and it was easy to see why it was chosen/booked to be the last match in the company’s history.

Flair and Sting had a storied rivalry, wrestling on the first Nitro ever in 1995 and their acclaimed feud spawned multiple decades that produced some amazing matches at Clash of Champions I and Starrcade: Future Shock.

Cut to 10 years later and the two were in TNA together, still wrestling. Ric’s last match ever was in TNA and was again against Sting on an episode of Impact! in 2011. Everyone can agree Flair shouldn’t have been wrestling post-WrestleMania XXIV but it was fitting his last bout was against The Stinger. And it was shockingly good given their combined age at the time.
