10 Bold Predictions For Wrestling In 2021
5. Bray Wyatt's Main Event Run Comes To An End
An interesting tidbit went almost unnoticed in the November 30 Wrestling Observer Newsletter, in which Dave Meltzer wrote:
"There are forces who are working at protecting Reigns from bad booking and the idea that a feud with Wyatt will do him no favors."
In effect, taken at face value, one or more persons involved in the creative process successfully petitioned Vince McMahon to do away with the programme teased via the debut of Wobbly Walrus - no small feat, considering that f*ckin' puppet was precision-calibrated to delight the COO.
This is a striking lowkey development because Bray Wyatt divides an audience WWE badly needs to unify, grow, and keep from ageing out. He's working a gimmick as passé as the foreign menace - a gimmick that elicits vast amounts of cringe from enough wrestling fans that renders it, surely, more hassle than it's worth. Not a living soul receives the act in fear. They might think it's cool, intriguing, or aesthetically pleasing. But it's inherently dysfunctional as a persona.
What's more is that Wyatt excels in those Firefly Fun House comedy skits, and if there's one thing you don't do in WWE, it's reveal your comedic chops. They will abuse that gift within an inch of its life.
Expect, then, WWE to lose interest in Wyatt as a main event act and to position him as a comedy midcard character, the investment in whom doesn't shape the overall opinion of the show.
